Description:
For our next Super Saturday Wine Tasting, we're pouring some world class wines perfect for fall.  It's been a great summer, but I think we're all ready for cooler weather, bigger and richer wines, and heartier meals.  This guarantees to be an epic wine tasting featuring some truly special wines, and you're invited.  Bring a friend! I can promise you that this will be one of the best wine tastings of the fall.  We're really going all out for this one!  I'm talking about Venge Cabernet Sauvignon, a new red blend that will make you forget about The Prisoner, and a stunning 2015 Red Burgundy. Yep, I let Ben, Will, and Sarah pick out the lineup for this one, and they didn't hold back. It's just $5 (free for Grape Nuts) to taste all 6 premium wines, and the prices range from $20 to $50.  Additionally, all of the tasting wines will be aggressively discounted.  I am proud of all of the value wines we have to offer, but it's always fun to pour and taste some topnotch wines from some first-class producers.  Check out the lineup of wines below, and don't forget the date.  Stop by, taste, learn, stock up and save big on a bunch of awesome wines.  No RSVP is required - all you have to do is stop by, grab a glass and a tasting/sales sheet, and have a good time. The Wines Save big on all of the tasting wines!  Mix any 3 of them and save 10%, mix any 6 of them and save 15%, or mix any 12 or more of them and save 20%! 1. 2016 Smith Story Sauvignon Blanc (Sonoma County, California) - The new vintage of our favorite California Sauvignon Blanc is super!  Ripe and textured, yet crisp and balanced, it is laced with notes of mixed citrus, mineral and herb. 2. 2014 Michel Gassier Costieres de Nimes Blanc "Lou Coucardie" (Rhone Valley, France) - We poured the 2013 version of this one a few weeks back and sold out in less than an hour!  It's less than $30, and it tastes like top-flight White Chateauneuf du Pape.  Full bodied, rich, and flowing with ripe notes of white peach, nectarine, lemon custard and white flowers, it's the perfect white for richer fall meals. 3. 2015 Capitain-Gagnerot Bourgogne Rouge (Burgundy, France) - In case you didn't hear, Vintage 2015 was marvelous in Burgundy, and this is one of the best deals out there.  From a single vineyard planted back in the 1950's, this is elegant and sophisticated Pinot Noir that won't break the bank. 4. 2015 Jiménez-Landi Bajondillo (Mentrida, Spain) - Vigneron Daniel Landi is leading the pack of Mentrida producers to greater heights.  His Bajondillo red blend combines 85% Garnacha from old vines with little bits of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.  The resulting wine is medium bodied, silky and savory with earthy, leathery, smoky notes on top of juicy berry fruit.  I love how this wine manages to balance weight and power with elegance. 5. 2015 Tank Garage Winery All or Nothing Red Blend (Napa Valley, California) - This aptly named winery is located in an old garage in Calistoga, and their wines are super!  The All or Nothing Red Blend is 100% Napa Zinfandel,  Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Malbec, and a few others.  It is big, broad, plush............we like to call it a "Pleasure Bomb" of a wine! 6. 2015 Venge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon "Silencieux" (Napa Valley, California) - This is a special treat as we only get 20 six-packs of this one per year!  Kirk Venge makes larger-than-life wines, and his 2015 Silencieux Cabernet is no exception.  From the hot and dry 2015 vintage, this one offers up classic notes of cassis, dark cherry, mocha and spicy, toasty oak. Description:
Join us for the fifth annual CiderFest NC fundraiser, featuring ample tastings of hard cider, mead and apple wine, along with artisanal food, live music, workshops, a kids zone, and more along the scenic French Broad River. As the largest annual fundraiser for the nonprofit WNC Green Building Council, the al-fresco event will be held during the peak of fall colors and the height of this area's busiest tourism season from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Salvage Station, at 468 Riverside Drive, just outside of downtown Asheville, NC. The fourth annual CiderFest in 2016 connected a record-setting 1,200 people with 15 national and local cider, mead and apple wine makers, and the 2017 event is expected to draw another sell-out crowd to sample sips from an even larger mix of local and national, small and large pourers. In addition to tasting cider and mead, guests can enjoy bites of artisanal food including local cheeses, baked goods, caramels, ice cream, and more. This quintessential family-friendly fall fest also offers arts and crafts from local vendors, live music, a kids zone, and community demos and workshops. A new addition this year, a limited number of VIT (Very Important Taster) tickets offer advance entry to the event a full hour early beginning at noon to enjoy exclusive access to tastings from our cider and mead makers and artisanal food vendors before the crowds arrive. You may even have the opportunity to sample some ciders and meads that won't be available during the regular event. In addition to early access, VITs will also receive free parking on-site at the Salvage Station for convenient access to make the most of your time at the event, as well as a complimentary commemorative CiderFest NC snifter. CiderFest NC is a carbon-neutral event and will be offsetting the event's footprint for each ticketholder through contributions to the Appalachian Offsets program, which is currently fundraising to install a solar system on the roof of Isaac Dickson Elementary School. Since the event has sold out in recent years, people are encouraged to buy tickets early.

Please join Andy Hale, Education Director for The Asheville School at MetroWines, for a Tasting and Class, "The Dark Side of Wine," on additives and manipulation in winemaking on Thursday, October 26th from 5:30 to 6:30 @MetroWines. "Shoppers are very cautious about food ingredients these days, eating healthy, buying organic, avoiding transfats and additives," says Andy Hale, "but there has been little concern about what might be in your wine." Andy will discuss the process of "fining" and "filtering" and the possible additives that some wineries are using to control and conform the taste of wine. "Expect some creepy stuff," says Andy.
