On Saturday, May 27, 2017, Buncombe County Recreation Services, will host a Veterans Fishing Day at Charles D. Owen Park in Swannanoa (875 Warren Wilson Road, Swannanoa, NC 28778).  The fishing tournament is open to all veterans. Veterans who register for the event (with proof of veterans status including VA Card, Military ID, NCDL with Veteran status or DD214 form) and their guests will be able to fish at Owen Pond during the event regardless of whether they currently hold a NC Fishing License. The intent of the event is to provide area veterans an opportunity to enjoy the solace of the outdoors and a space for remembrance and reflection. Check-in and registration begins at 8am and hooks can hit the water anytime there after until noon. Registration is free and includes snacks and a hot dog lunch for veterans. Veterans can bring their families or a fishing buddy to the event. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing supplies. Come bring your chair, toss a hook in the water and relax by the calming waters of the Owen Ponds.  Trout, Large and Small Mouth Bass, Crappie and Cat Fish have all been snagged by anglers in these waters. Loretta Lynn and EmiSunshine EmiSunshine and The Rain: "As the Waters Rise" Live 9/2/16 Newport, KY EmiSunshine American Dream Emi Sunshine on The Today Show Emi Sunshine - Jolene It's impossible to explain the exceptional talents of EmiSunshine, an 11-year-old East Tennessee prodigy who has captured the nation's attention as a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Steeped in Appalachian music, she is a true vocal stylist, one who instinctively knows how to interpret the nuances of a song with her impressive range, even though she has yet to gain the life experience and empathy seemingly necessary to fully comprehend the words she sings. Despite a given name that reflects optimism, she is drawn to darker themes of pain, anguish and even murder, like that of The Louvin Brothers, whom she loves.

The Tennessean is just the latest to describe her as "an old soul," noting, "Onstage, this soul's presence is commanding and her singing voice authentic and folksy." While her youth might remind many of Taylor Swift, a more apt comparison would be to artists such as Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss or members of the Carter Family.

Whether she's performing on the Today show or the Grand Ole Opry or taking the stage at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, she is fearless, confident and firm in her musical direction. As she says, she sings "old-time music," but it's her own unique blend of roots music that is equal parts Americana, bluegrass, gospel, and country, with a little bit of blues thrown in for good measure. Her talent is indescribable and inexplicable, but fortunately, it doesn't have to be understood to be appreciated.

"What makes me want to do this is I just love it," she says. "I just really, really love it. I wouldn't trade anything not to do this."

"I love how I get to sing to people and make them happy," she says. "I'm really blessed that I get to do this. It makes me feel amazing, like I'm touching somebody's life."

Offstage, Emilie Sunshine Hamilton is a typical 11-year-old girl who loves video games, pets and colorful clothes. She's had a normal upbringing in Madisonville, Tenn., where her mother worked as a nurse and her father is a recording engineer. But when she begins singing, playing or writing, something else takes over, a phenomenon that began before she could talk.

Before she spoke, at around 10 months old, she began singing pure tones and humming melodies from Tom Petty songs. She harmonized with her grandmothers and great-grandmothers, continuing a musical heritage to a third generation. Great-grandmother Wanda Matthews sang on the Tennessee Barn Dance and gave Emi the same advice that June Carter Cash gave her: Don't let anybody walk all over you and don't think nothin' about what they say.

As soon as Emi was old enough to walk down the aisle, she began singing in church. She was too little to know the words, but you could hear her harmonies over the others'. At age 4, she sang "You Are My Sunshine" at her aunt's wedding and learned how to sing the Dixie Chicks' "Traveling Soldier." When she was three and four, her mother, who is a songwriter, created songs for her, but by age 5, she wrote her first song, "My Time to Fly."

At age 7, she learned how to play the ukulele—the guitar was too big for her little hands–and used it to write "Little Weeping Willow Tree." That was the same year she recorded her first two albums, Strong as the Tall Pine and Wide River to Cross in her father's studio. She learned how to play guitar and mandolin at age nine –the picks are still too large for her–and has since picked up the xylophone. By age 8, she was stripping down "Hush Little Baby" and rearranging the melody to sing to the pigs.

Her parents filled the house with music by Buddy Miller, Johnny and June Carter Cash and Emmylou Harris, and her musical tastes were formed. Those influences served as a foundation on which she built her own sound. "It's kind of what came out," she says of her sound. "I always loved that music and I thought, 'That's what I wanted to play. This is what I want to do.'"

She performed in churches, festivals, theaters, and for a time, talent shows. "One day I decided I didn't want to do talent shows anymore because you could see the kids' disappointment and it didn't make me happy," she says.

She had no idea that someone captured her flea market performance of Jimmie Rodgers' "Blue Yodel No. 6" and posted it on YouTube in 2014. "It went viral," she says. "We started getting a bunch of likes and we didn't really know where it was coming from."

Again, without the family's knowledge, the Today show featured the video. "We were really excited and surprised," she says. "We didn't know what to think." There was such a tremendous response to her performance that the show invited her on to perform live, a moment that changed her life because word of her talent immediately spread on Music Row.

It led to performances on Marty Stuart's Late Night Jam at the Ryman during CMA Music Fest, and then to ongoing performances at the Grand Ole Opry.

She performs about 150 shows a year and touring is a family affair. Her mother took a leap of faith and gave up her nursing career to travel. Father Randall Hamilton plays upright bass, her brother is on mandolin, Uncle Bobby is on drums and Aunt Kristal sells merchandise. "It's fun, like how I get to be with my family all the time."

Emi, who has 490,000 "likes" on Facebook, remains unaware of much of the whirlwind and demand swirling around her. "When we're in Oklahoma and people recognize her, she doesn't get why they know her," says her mother, Alisha Hamilton. "When they come up and say, 'My mama was dying and you gave her the best four weeks of her life. You comforted her and me.' She doesn't understand that she has made that impact on people's lives. I tell her some of it, but not all of it, because it's a heavy weight."

EmiSunshine's career moves will be dictated not by opportunities, but integrity. She knows who she is and what she wants her music to be, and her parents remain committed to ensuring that her wishes are not compromised in any way. After coming off a year where many of her dreams came true, Emi is quickly creating new dreams and plans. But her ultimate goal remains the same: "I just want everybody to know who I am."

21+, Doors @ 3, Show @ 4 FREE Show The Heavy Pets are an American rock band whose contagious vibe blends rhythm and blues, jazz-funk, nu-disco and reggae fusion with rock & roll. Called "a living, breathing, force of nature" by Relix Magazine, the Pets are known for their soulful song-craft and the powerhouse live performances of their infectious dance songs. Riding high on their most recent studio effort, the A/B single Two Horses, look out for The Heavy Pets as they continue to hit the road hard. The group became an instant Sirius radio sensation in 2007 with the release of their doubledisc debut album, Whale, driven by hit tracks "Operation of Flight" and "Sleep." First embraced by the jam scene for their raw talent, their crossover sound that is showcased on their self-titled album, also dubbed a "Top 10 Album of 2010" by The Huffington Post, propelled them into the periphery of mainstream music. Returning to their acoustic roots on Swim Out Past the Sun (2011), THP's guitar duo set aside their electric axes for a more organic approach. The Heavy Pets followed up those polished efforts by releasing the Everywhere Sessions: Volume 1 EP, recorded live in the studio with accompanying videos of the three songs "Chew," "Help Me Help You" and "The Day the Sun Forgot to Rise." Major festival darlings, THP have taken the stage at Bonnaroo, Jam Cruise, High Sierra, Gathering of the Vibes, All Good, Wakarusa, Mountain Jam, Bear Creek, Summer Camp, Catskill Chill, AURA and their namesake PetZoo

In these classes, we will look at simple ways of changing our perspective, so that when we see others’ good qualities, we can lift ourselves up instead of putting ourselves down. When we don’t get what we want, we can be happy anyway, and we can accept ourselves as we are while gaining the freedom to become who we want to be.

We've Got A Fire - The Steel Wheels (Official) The Steel Wheels - End Of The World Again (OFFICIAL) Red Wing - The Steel Wheels (Official Video) Folk Alley Sessions: The Steel Wheels - "Mountains Quake/Find Your Mountain" “Few groups have come as far in such a short period of time as The Steel Wheels…” –NPR’s Mountain Stage

“What sets The Steel Wheels apart from many bands is the combination of their stellar instrumentals, accentuated by the one of a kind lead vocal of Wagler, and keenly supported by strong harmonies. Eric Brubaker on fiddle, Jay Lapp on mandolin, and Brian Dickel on bass weave in and out intricately throughout this record, painting vivid imagery which flows effortlessly, just teasing the lyrics enough to allow them to resonate within you.” —Country Standard Time

New from The Steel Wheels: Wild As We Came Here, out April 28, 2017.

Hailing from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, The Steel Wheels are familiar with the traditions of folk music and how a string band is supposed to sound. In fact, they’ve been drawing on those steadfast traditions for more than a decade. Yet, their name also evokes a sense of forward motion, which is clearly reflected in their latest album, Wild As We Came Here.

The Steel Wheels recorded their album in rural Maine, where producer Sam Kassirer (Lake Street Dive, Josh Ritter) owns a recording studio inside a renovated farmhouse from the 18th century. All four band members – Trent Wagler (guitar, banjo), Eric Brubaker (fiddle), Brian Dickel (upright bass) and Jay Lapp (mandolin) – hunkered down for a week and a half to create Wild As We Came Here.

The band’s name is a tip of the hat to steam-powered trains, industrial progress and the buggies of their Mennonite lineage. Their musical style weaves through Americana and bluegrass, folk and old-time music, and the acoustic poetry of the finest singer-songwriters. By incorporating percussion and keyboards into their recording sessions for the first time, Wild As We Came Here adds new textures to their catalog, as themes of discovery and perseverance run throughout the collection.

Description:

Vancouver Sleep Clinic as a name in itself conjures up imagery of long cold winters, of isolation and remoteness and the sometimes self-imposed reclusiveness in all of us as the days get shorter and we move into the bitter months ahead. The adopted moniker of 17 year-old Tim Bettinson perfectly hones in on this visuality and with new track 'Collapse' taken from his forthcoming debut EP, the influences of those dark corners inside ourselves interweave throughout his sound. As we draw closer into the winter here in the Western hemisphere, VSC feels like it was designed to be delivered just in time for the onslaught of the colder weather. Taking into consideration that Tim lives in Australia, he set about writing songs for VSC during his winter but what was in fact our Summer - timing can be everything. After months of assembling lyrics and instrumentation from various maths books, notes, whiteboards and bedroom walls, humbly working with scattered cheap microphones, an old laptop and an outdated keyboard - Vancouver Sleep Clinic's debut EP was born, a combination of soaring falsetto vocals built upon progressive synthetic instrumentation to create an ambient base for a vessel of emotional connections to be made. Bearing messages of sorrow, humility and hope above all else - songs are written from the heart alone. Together, let's create something beautiful.

Description:

Flux Pavilion is a one man orchestra! With the ability to Sing and play a large variety of instruments it’s obvious that music comes naturally to him. Since first sitting down at a keyboard at the age of six his dream has been to make music that he loves and perform it to people who love it just as much.

Flux Pavilion AKA Joshua Steele has always been influenced by hard hitting dance music in everything that he does and it was only a matter of time before he found his own sound in the dance industry. in early 2008 Dubstep lit this internal fuse and he hasnt been the same man since.

Influenced by the likes of The Prodigy,Basement Jaxx and dubstep pioneer Rusko, Flux loved the high energy madness that dance music was capable of and set about making some of his own in the form of dubstep. Already adept with production skills he was soon off the starting block and his tunes were in swift circulation on the dubstep forum and were becoming a familiar name in the scene. What started of as a bit of experimentation soon became clear that Flux has definitely landed on his feet with the dubstep sound.
Before long labels were banging at his door itching to release his music sohe decided that the world was ready for a bit of Flux Pavilion! Signing tunes to Rottun, Shift, XS Records, Stupid Fly and Dubmented beats and working with artists such as Datsik and Trolley Snatcha, his tunes were dominating the charts and starting to receive alot more interest from the big boys.

Ntype featured his track ‘fucking noise’ on his rinse mix cd and not content with that then signed flux’s track ‘Meathead’ to his label wheel and deal. This was a massive look for flux and got his name out there to all the Dj’s: Rusko, Hatcha, Plastician, Caspa, Skream. Soon enough no club was safe from one of Flux’s bangers and the bookings came flying in all over the UK and Europe.

While his career flourished Flux and childhood Friend Doctor P had also been working on some stuff together. They teamed up with Legendary DJ and drum and bass pioneer DJ Swan-e and Earl Falconer of UB40 and formed the infamous Circus Records. With his own platform for dubstep Flux began to imprint the scene with his sound and was quickly becoming one of the main players in dancefloor dubstep family. His track Voscillate Received ‘Track of the Week’ on Rusko’s radio one takeover which even featured his own vocals and more to date his forthcoming single “I can’t Stop” has just received world record of the week by Radio 1’s Zane Lowe.

Well known for his high energy performances and smashing anthems Flux is now performing all over the globe, and further tours are confirmed for next year in  the U.S, Canada and Australia.
