Originally released in the summer of 1996, Hot was the follow up to the bands critically acclaimed debut The Inevitable. By this time the group had already established a substantial live following across the country thanks to early support from NPR, college radio and non-commercial stations. Hot wound up selling over 1.3 million copies. A newly re-mastered version of the album along with a bonus track: The Puffer returned to stores in July on Hollywood Records. Protest Songs: Cory Branan - Another Nightmare in America - Solo (Live) Cory Branan "The Corner" ADIOS is Cory Branan’s death record. Not the cheeriest of openings, but like all of Branan’s mercurial work, it’s probably not what you think. As funny and defiant as it is touching and sad, this self-dubbed “loser’s survival kit” doesn’t spare its subjects or the listener.

Not even Branan’s deceased father is let off the hook. In the tender homage “The Vow” he drolly cites his father’s favorite banality “that’s what you get for thinking” as “probably not the best lesson for kids.” For most songwriters that would be the punchline but Branan pushes through words and, in his father’s actions, finds a kind of “genius in the effortless way he just ‘did’.”

Not all the death on ADIOS is literal mortality. “Imogene” is sung from the wreckage of a love that once “poked fun at the pain, stoked the sun in the rain” but ends with the urgent call to “act on the embers, ash won’t remember the way back to fire.”

The trademark lyrical agility is mirrored sonically. Never a genre loyalist, ADIOS finds Branan (much like his musically restless heroes Elvis Costello and Tom Waits) coloring outside the lines in sometimes startling shades of fuzz and twang. While unafraid to play it arrow-straight when called for (“The Vow,” “Equinox,” “Don’t Go”), ADIOS veers wildly from the Buddy Holly-esque rave up “I Only Know” (sung with punk notables Laura Jane Grace and Dave Hause), through the swampy “Walls, MS” to the Costello-like new wave of “Visiting Hours.”

The blistering punk of “Another Nightmare in America” bops along daring listeners to “Look away, look away, move along, nothing to see here” (the song is written from the point of view of a racist killer cop). And as the mourning singer on “Cold Blue Moonlight” shifts from paralysis to panic, the song’s jazzy drone shifts to an almost Sabbath fury. The tonal shifts are always deliberate and not just simple genre hopping; while the turns can be jarring you can trust Branan to take you somewhere unexpected.

The 14-song album was self-produced and recorded in the spring of 2016 at Tweed Studios in Oxford, MS with a tight three piece: Branan on lead vocals and guitar (both electric and acoustic); Robbie Crowell (formerly of Deer Tick) on drums and percussion, keys, and horns; and James “Haggs” Haggerty on bass. Additionally, Amanda Shires contributes on fiddle and vocals, and Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! and Dave Hause provide guest vocals.

Cory Branan has four previous full-length releases: The Hell You Say (2002, Madjack Records), 12 Songs (2006, Madjack), Mutt (2012, Bloodshot Records), and The No-Hit Wonder (2014, Bloodshot). His music has received critical praise from the likes of Rolling Stone and Rolling Stone Country, NPR All Things Considered, Noisey, Wall Street Journal, Paste Magazine, Oxford American, Consequence of Sound, Southern Living, and many others.

The Whiskey Gentry - I Ain't Nothing The Whiskey Gentry - Following You (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) The Whiskey Gentry "Holly Grove" Following the release of their first two acclaimed albums, Please Make Welcome (2011) and Holly Grove (2013), the Atlanta-based band The Whiskey Gentry are set to release their third full-length studio album entitled Dead Ringer this spring. On it, the husband and wife duo of Lauren Staley & Jason Morrow and bandmates have created an effort that builds on many of the sounds of their previous albums - incorporating deep country, Americana, honky-tonk, bluegrass and a stiff shot of gritty rock ’n’ roll, yet it also finds the band testing themselves and pushing beyond their own boundaries.

Dead Ringer deals with growing up, and how that’s affected the band’s relationships, and the places they’ve gone and people they’ve met in the process. As singer/songwriter Lauren Staley puts it, “There's also a lot of questioning where you are in your life: are you going to follow your dream, or are you going to do what society thinks you should do?”

It’s apparent with this effort that Staley & Co. have opted for the former. “A common lyrical thread throughout this album are stories about being on the road,” Lauren admits, “and chasing your dreams and the outcomes - either good or bad - in doing that.”

Stepping outside of the comfort zone of their previous recordings, the band has moved in a different direction musically. “Sonically, the biggest difference of this record is that we recorded it live together in the same room at Echo Mountain Recording Studio (Asheville, NC),” Lauren explains. “There are less overdubs, which makes it sound more like how it would if you were to see us in person - it’s raw, it's not perfect. We worked with a producer for the first time (Les Hall), and he had so many amazing ideas we'd never thought of and really pushed us to think outside of our box. There's an energy on this record that we've never captured before, and I think it was a complete game changer for our sound.”

Dead Ringer has more guitars, more attitude and more of an edge than anything the band has done before. It's not such a massive departure in sound that fans won't understand it, but they will notice. “We are not a different band,” Lauren explains, “but we've definitely grown up and are changed people from the time we started this band. I think we're better musicians, better songwriters. We've learned lessons and we've worked hard, and we want to tell our current fans and new fans the stories of what we've experienced on this journey. Musically, there are still elements of bluegrass and honky-tonk in our sound, and there always will be. However, I think we've expanded the scope of what we can offer people - there's something for everyone on this record.”

Alien Music Club is essentially an on-going studio project conceived and produced by Jonathan Pearlman (JP) of Asheville, NC.JP grew up hearing light jazz and pop music. His first musical icons were Elvis Presley and Bobby Darin. He was performing for audiences at age seven. He began playing guitar at age nine. JP’s influences are far-reaching, absorbing Lennon/McCartney, Hendrix, Clapton, and Motown, during the 60’s. Jazz-fusion bands of the early 70’s were also influential, like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report and Frank Zappa. These became JP’s earliest jazz-rock influences. Other influences include Tom waits, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Donald Fagan, Ian Hunter, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Beck, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Charles Mingus, Paul Simon, Todd Rungren and Joe Walsh.JP was continually writing, singing and playing in bands throughout his college years, and he graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Broadcasting in 1978. Fast forward the next 20 years or so, and he had become a successful videographer and producer, all the while pursuing his music. During the 1990’s, JP adopted the pseudonym “Alien Music Club”. The idea of a club came from the desire to incorporate the talents of other musicians and friends in the creative process. The “Alien” concept comes from the wildly eclectic nature of JP’s music, which defies categorization. “It’s really a musical melting pot,” says JP.

Belting female vocals. Insightful lyrics. Original and catchy melodies.web: http://www.briecaponemusic.com/vid: https://youtu.be/JkwBZlpfE7UThird NatureThird Nature is a very different animal today than it was ten years ago. With the recent integration of lead vocalist, Lilly-Anne Merat, the band’s unique blend of rock, house, hip-hop, and downtempo is bringing taste and originality to the world of live electronic music. Sultry melodies are paired with evocative harmonies over a pulsating rhythm that is guaranteed to get you out of your seat and onto the dancefloor.Though a young band, Third Nature’s history runs deep. Their tradition is rooted in family, a love of life and a collective goal to create music that speaks from the heart and to the soul. Founding members Merrick Noyes (keyboards/vocals) Will Dowling (bass/vocals) and Tom Best (drums) began practicing and performing together as Third Nature in 2004, during their high school years in Connecticut. Through years of practice, sweaty collegiate basement parties and forays into the small festival circuit, they developed a more refined brand of live electronic music. While in college, the band met vocalist Lilly-Anne and they knew something magical would come from their collaboration. After college, one year of post-graduation purgatory was enough to prompt a change of scene. The band set its sights on its new headquarters of Asheville, North Carolina in 2013. Since then, Lilly-Anne has become a more permanent fixture in the line-up, bringing a soulful lyricism to the band’s historically jam-oriented sound. The result is a sound that lies somewhere between a DJ set and an indie-rock show; equal parts danceable and listenable. SSC is just as deep into the world of R&B, HipHop and NeoSoul as it’s improvisational jazzy undertones. The love child of prolific Asheville music scenesters, Simon Thomas George, CaroMia Tiller and Phil Bronson. SSC was formed in the summer of 2015. Always teasing the line of musicality and emotional depth, SSC embraces the affection of music aficionados and the casual listener alike. Simon is something of a wizard on the keyboard. At 24, he has a striking handle on his instrument. He is both the bassist and keyboardist, grooving the left hand synth-bass while his right hand flies independently across the spectrum of his keyboard, allowing him creative freedom in the chordal realm. When performing as a duo, Simon adds to his ministry of talents, looping beatboxing and keyboards to essentially be a band in himself. CaroMia’s transcendent voice twirls and spins on top, and is as much an instrument in itself as a carrier of lyrics. Saluted by AskAsheville as “a sultry and seductive voice you’d swear you’ve only heard dotting the landscape of your dreams,” CaroMia garners attention for her vast range in of expression. More often than not, Micah Thomas is present with his playful approach and his magic bag of percussive toys and tricks (not to mention, the kid doesn’t stop smiling). And last but definitely not least, Phil’s impossibly sensitive ear and exceptional musicality takes him far beyond the scope of the archetypal drummer and is reliably the connecting thread that unites SSC individual’s ideas. Offering honest, heartfelt lyrical content, breathtaking vocals and deep grooves to make you move, Siamese Sound Club serves the body, mind, and soul.vid: https://youtu.be/gx9qvxHyud0Sponsors for this event - to be listed in full soon. If interested in becoming a sponsor, email [email protected]

18+ to Attend | $5Opener:  at 8pmHeadliner: Time Sawyer TIME SAWYER Time Sawyer is interested in “real people and real songs” and that’s just what the listener finds in their music – a sense of realness. Time Sawyer blends a grassroots feel with heart-felt lyrics to put on an entertaining show. From introspective ballads to high-energy crowd-pleasers, Time Sawyer’s songs land in that rootsy sweet spot where folk, alt-country, and rock gather for a good time. The folk rock band’s name reflects the pull between the past and the future. The character Tom Sawyer evokes the rural background and love of home that lead vocalist/guitarist Sam Tayloe and vocalist/banjo player Houston Norris, share. Time is a muse for songwriting; it’s the thread that runs through life, bringing new experiences and giving us a sense of urgency, while still connecting us with our past. Time Sawyer has performed on the stages of some of the Southeast’s most iconic festivals, including Merlefest, Floydfest, Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, Rhythm n’ Blooms, Carolina in the Fall and IBMA’s Bluegrass First Class. They’ve shared bills with Langhorne Slim, Phil Cook, Steep Canyon Rangers, The Wood Brothers, Joe Pug, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, and many more. The band’s original members, including guitarist Kurt Layell and drummer Clay Stirewalt, along with Tayloe and Norris, started performing and recording together while they were all students at University of North Carolina at Charlotte. They went on to record five albums together, each demonstrating growth, with more skillful instrumentation and more sophisticated arrangement, all while retaining the honesty and directness that has been a hallmark of their music from the start. The memorable lyrics and strong melodies result in songs that will stay in your head long after the music stops. Time Sawyer continues to develop a loyal and growing fan base. Whether they’re playing in an intimate listening room or a large outdoor festival, their goal is to forge a face-to-face connection with the audience so that they become friends who happen to be fans. http://www.timesawyer.com/

Tickets: adv. $17 / dos. $20Show: 9:30PM (doors 9PM)Ages: 21+Location: Asheville Music Hall Enter the Earth Presents:The 16th Annual Christmas Party & Benefit for the Leaf Love Campaign - 'building a legacy for Leaf Community Arts'. Roosevelt CollierGenre: Blues, Funk, Soul, Jam, Sacred Steel, Gospel, Feel Good Music Soft-spoken by nature, south Florida-bred Roosevelt Collier does his hollering on the sacred steel guitar. Brought up in the tradition of the House of God Church, Roosevelt built his reputation alongside his uncles and cousins in The Lee Boys, known for their spirited, soul-shaking live performances. Seated front and center, "The Dr." leaves an indelible mark on listeners, flooring audiences with his lightning-fast slide work on the pedal steel. At festivals, he is a regular "Artist at Large," performing alongside many of music's most prestigious acts, from the Allman Brothers, to the Funky Meters, to Los Lobos to the Del McCoury Band. Whether on tour with the Lee Boys, bouncing from stage to stage at festivals, or hosting an allstar get down in Miami, when Roosevelt takes the stage, the ear-to-ear grins can’t help but be contagious. web: http://www.rooseveltcollier.net/vid: https://youtu.be/OGhtSN3pudE Soule Monde (featuring Ray Paczkowski & Russ Lawton (from Trey Anastasio Band)Genre: Jazz/Funk Soule Monde is avant funk erupting from the syncopated minds of power drummer Russ Lawton + B3 wizard Ray Paczkowski. An ideal union of swagger and raw talent, the duo is fervently cemented into an indestructible pocket, where bold improvisational leaps by either player are met by a near-telepathic response from the other. This is fluid funk, crafted for the dance floor but supported by an extensive grasp of jazz improvisation. Members of Soule Monde have appeared at Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, on Saturday Night Live, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Fallon, and have shared the stage with Carlos Santana, Rolling Stones, Trey Anastasio, Dave Matthews, Victor Wooten, Mike Gordon, Viperhouse + Strangefolk. Ray and Russ are both current touring members of Trey Anastasio Band. web: http://www.soulemonde.com/vid: https://youtu.be/65PndPwv8KA Josh Phillips Big BandGenre: Rock/Folk/World After a long period of writing and mostly hiatus from performing live music, Josh Phillips is coming back big with his latest and most ambitious project yet. Josh Phillips Big Band, just like the ever evolving and collaborative Asheville music scene, is a merging of musicians from all the bands Josh has performed with over the last 12 years. Featuring members of the Folk Festival, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, and the Overflow Jug Band; Empire Strikes Brass, The Digs, Devils and Dust, Ashley Heath, and many more, Josh Phillips Big Band is truly a collective of some of the baddest (as in goodest) musical veterans living in Asheville. Welcoming another new addition to your family?  Is your older child excited about becoming a big sibling but not sure what their new title really means? Register now for this awesome Sibling Class. The Sibling Class is designed for children ages 2 and older. Each class we sit together and learn the basics about newborns - what they are wearing when they are born, how babies communicate, and what babies need (diapers, clothes, blankets, love). We talk about the process of labor and birth in G-rated fashion - where moms and dads go to have a baby or what it will be like to have a baby at home, how the baby gets out of mom, what are those funny sounds mom is making, and that mom is OK. Children are encouraged to bring a baby doll or baby-sized stuffed animal to class so they can diaper, clothe, swaddle, and hold the baby. They will learn the important ways they can help when the new baby comes home and learn how to "play" with thier little sibling and show the baby love. Each class includes time to read a book, watch a birth story, and do a craft and ebbs and flows to hold the attention of the various ages in the group. Although this class is primarliy focused on the children, parents will learn tips about integrating the new baby to the mix, including ways to welcome the new baby, how siblings can help with the day-to-day tasks a newborn requires, transitioning to a family of four or more, and how to prepare children for the birth of their new brother or sister.  The class will also have resources on what to expect, the changing family dynamics, challenges with older children such as toilet training and sleep.   The children will create a onesie for the new baby and create a big brother/sister tee shirt for themselves. They will also receive "I'm the Big Brother/Sister" certificate upon completing the class  YOU MAY ALSO LIKE: Childbirth Refresher Class We also offer class bundles:  Childbirth Refresher Class + Welcome Little Baby Sibling Class

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!  With the holiday season upon us, you are officially invited to stop by the store, taste, stock up, and save big on a dozen awesome wines.  Richard McKinney and Lauren Shrewbridge of Tryon Distributing join us to pour a diverse and eclectic batch of wines.  From festive bubbles and awesome values for your holiday parties to top-shelf wines perfect for gift-giving, we'll have all bases covered.  Mark your calendars and spread the word, as this is our last BIG tasting of 2017. All of the featured tasting wines are being offered at 20% off by the bottle!  All sales must be tendered by the end of business on Saturday unless other arrangements are made.  Email us at [email protected] with questions. 1. 2014 Saint-Hilaire Blanquette de Limoux (Languedoc, France) – This is consistently one of the best bubbles for your buck on the market.  Made just like Champagne, but costing a fraction of the price, this blend of Mauzac, Chardonnay, and Chenin Blanc, it displays notes of creamy lemon curd and brioche. Special Tasting Price: $11.99/bottle 2. 2016 Cantine Elvio Tintero Arneis (Piemonte, Italy) – They don't just make Barolo and Barbaresco in Italy's Piemonte region!  Arneis is one of the key white varietals, and it produces fresh, crisp, and bright white wines.  Perfect as an aperitif, it also works wonders with fish and seafood preparations. Special Tasting Price: $10.39/bottle 3. 2015 Domaine Savary Chablis (Burgundy, France) – Olivier and Francine Savary make ultra-classic and traditional Chablis from their property in Maligny, in the heart of the Chablis region.  100% Chardonnay fermented and aged on the lees in stainless steel, their 2015 is wonderfully pure and bordering on rich, with notes of pear, apple, creamy lemon, and mineral. Special Tasting Price: $20.79/bottle  4. 2015 Domaine Roger Neveu Sancerre Vieilles Vignes "Pierre-Francois Xavier" (Loire Valley, France) – Made only 9 times since 1990, this is one of the finest Sancerres I've ever tasted.  When the family decides to make this one, they only make 4 barrels from their oldest vines, and they ferment and age in oak. I bought my distributor out of this one -- can't wait for you to try it! Special Tasting Price: $27.99/bottle  5. 2015 Famille Hugel Gentil (Alsace, France) – Hugel Gentil is a traditional Alsace blend of varying amounts of Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Muscat and Sylvaner.  Dry, yet fresh and fruit-filled, this one does the trick with ham and turkey..........it's also great as a cocktail wine. Special Tasting Price: $11.99/bottle  6. 2016 Domaine de la Prébende Beaujolais Rouge (Beaujolais, France) – This isn't your typical, simple Beaujolais..........not even close.  Part of the Kermit Lynch portfolio, this one is made with very old vines, it's never chapitalized, and it's vinified completely without SO2.  This "vin du naturel" is loaded with soul and personality -- think snappy, lively red fruits and mineral.  Pure chugging pleasure! Special Tasting Price: $13.59/bottle  7. 2016 Elouan Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley, Oregon) – After making a pretty penny with his sale of Meiomi, Joe Wagner set his sights on Oregon.  Elouan is the result and it's become a very popular wine at the store.  With rich notes of baked red fruits and spices and a supple, seamless texture, I can see why. Special Tasting Price: $15.99/bottle  8. 2015 Finca Decero Malbec "Remolinos Vineyard" (Mendoza, Argentina) – Decero crafts one of our top-selling Malbecs, and their wines just continue to get better year-after-year.  With rich, warm, and spicy berry fruit along with subtle notions of violet and French oak, this inviting red wine would be perfect for filet mignon. Special Tasting Price: $14.39/bottle 9. 2012 Chateau Aney Haut-Médoc (Bordeaux, France) - This left-bank château lies strategically between St-Julien and Margaux, but their wines sell for a fraction of the price.  65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, with bits of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the wine is aged for 3 years before release.  It is a wonderful rendition of traditionally-styled Bordeaux.  Perfect for standing rib roast. Special Tasting Price: $23.99/bottle 10. 2014 Marietta Cellars Armé (North Coast, California) - The estate's Bordeaux-styled blend contains 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 5% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, and it was aged for 20 months in neutral barrels.  "Cool and savory, but with considerable depth, the 2014 Armé is another knock-out wine from Scot Bilbro. Readers looking for a value-priced California Cabernet will flip out over this wine. This is a very serious wine for the money." - Vinous Media - 92 points Special Tasting Price: $19.99/bottle 11. 2015 Southern Belle Red Blend (Murcia, Spain) - 50% Monastrell and 50% Syrah aged in used Pappy van Winkle bourbon barrels.  Yep!  It's big, it's plush, it's perfect to give as a gift to the wine and bourbon lover in your life. Special Tasting Price: $17.59/bottle 12. 2015 Tank Garage Winery All or Nothing Red Blend (Napa Valley, California) - This aptly named winery is located in an old garage in Calistoga, and their wines are super!  The All or Nothing Red Blend is 100% Napa Zinfandel,  Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Malbec, and a few others.  It is big, broad, plush............we like to call it a "Pleasure Bomb" of a wine! Special Tasting Price: $23.99/bottle
