Everybody loves an earnest Ernest The Importance of Being Earnest is an irreverent comedy on Victorian manners and the politics of romance. Warren Wilson Theatre presents Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest running April 27th through the 29th at 7:30 p.m., with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday, April 30th, at Kittredge Theatre on the Warren Wilson College campus. Jack Worthing has a situation-- he is Ernest in town and Jack in the country. Little does he know, being Ernest is a very sought after position. Jack’s love, Ms. Gwendolen Fairfax, reveals to him that it has always been her dream to love someone named Ernest. Meanwhile, his friend Algernon decides to impersonate Jack’s “little brother” Ernest at his country home and woo Jack’s young ward Cecily, who has a similar fascination with the name Ernest. Thus, let the most earnest Ernest be Ernest! Directed by Warren Wilson’s Candace Taylor, The Importance of Being Earnest is an irreverent comedy on Victorian manners and the politics of romance, supported by scene and lighting design by Don Baker and costume design by Bev Ohler. All performances are open to the public. For information call: (828) 771-3040, email [email protected] or visit our web site: www.warren-wilson.edu/blog/theatre. Friday, April 28, 2017 Opening seminar 7:30-9pm Saturday, April 29, 2017 Morning session: 9:30am-noon Afternoon session: 1:30-4pm Brooks-Howell Home is partnering with Jesus Seminar on the Road program to look at the surprising history behind one of Christian history's most controversial figures, Mary Magdalene, led by guest scholars Shelly Matthews of Brite Divinity School and Perry Kea of the University of Indianapolis. The program kicks off with a lecture on Friday, April 28th, 7:30-9pm and continues on Saturday, April 29th, with a series of daytime sessions 9:30am-4pm. Much attention has been given to the historical Jesus of Nazareth, but what about the historical Mary of Magdala? In the rise of Christianity, some held that Mary was the person closest to Jesus, that she was a true Apostle, and that her understanding of the gospel was an authentic path of knowledge. Join us for this informative event exploring Mary's role as prophet and emissary of the kingdom of God. All sessions take place at Brooks-Howell Home, 266 Merrimon Ave. Asheville, NC 28801. Continuing Education Units will be offered. Registration for Conference: westarinstitute.org/upcoming-events-calendar/asheville-2017 Overnight lodging at Brooks-Howell Home: Please email Director of Marketing, Cameron Kempson, at [email protected]

LinksLaura Blackley is a singer, songwriter and purveyor of high lonesome Appalachian blues and soul. She plays ‘folk tunes with a rock n roll soundtrack’ with her band the Wildflowers. Look for a recording from them soon. Their forthcoming album, titled “Tell It To the Darkness” is due in April 2017.

She also sings classic country duets and dance tunes with The Old Chevrolette Set, a fun band also from Asheville, NC.

Blackley was an on-air host and producer for seven years at WNCW 88.7 FM in Spindale, NC, spotlighting regional music, women in roots music, and bluegrass and old-time.

She currently works (in addition to her gig schedule) as a Teaching Artist with Musicworks!, a program that utilizes music and musicianship to teach life skills to young children.

A born storyteller, she has played in many bands, traveled many back roads and interstates and enjoys digging up old tunes and hearing the stories behind them. She believes that music has a healing power and is a communal act, and is very much looking forward to the next gig.
