ASHEVILLE, NC – Asheville dentist Dr. Steve Adams and staff will hold their fourth annual Dentistry from the Heart Day on Friday, providing free care to needy adults.
The office will offer free fillings, cleanings and extractions for adults 21 and older. Those who receive services should have no dental insurance and no access to dental care.
The care will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 7 a.m. at the dental office at 26 Reynolds Mountain Blvd.
Office staff say a line usually begins forming at 4 a.m. for the event, and staff will arrive by 5:30 a.m. to begin preparing for the day.
The staff requests no phone calls before the event from those seeking care.
"We’re very happy to be able to give back to the community," said Linda Johnson, the office’s patient care coordinator. "These are people with no means of receiving dental care."
The office began Dentistry from the Heart four years ago after staff attended a seminar in Florida that featured a similar program there, Johnson said.
Sponsors of Friday’s event include Patterson Dental, Caulk Dental, Medicine Shoppe, New Bridge Café, ImageClairty, Fast Signs and Dr. Stan Holt.
Johnson also said local volunteers, area media outlets and the Woodfin Police Department deserve credit for making the event a success.
