ASHEVILLE, NC – The City of Asheville is participating in the Cans for Cash City Recycling Challenge. The contest, sponsored by The United States Conference of Mayors, Keep America Beautiful, and Novelis Corporation, challenges cities across the country to promote citizen participation in the collection of aluminum beverage cans.

Asheville will compete with other cities of the same size for up to $5,000 in awards. Awards will be used to support recycling efforts through local education and awareness programs.

Approximately 50 billion aluminum cans end up in landfills each year. Recycling aluminum beverage cans reduces waste in our landfills and helps create a sustainable environment. The Challenge starts October 1 and ends October 31, 2009. Recycle those aluminum cans!

Asheville Chamber of Commerce Hands Out 2009 "Go Green Award"

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

ASHEVILLE, NC – The Asheville location for American Security Shredding has been recognized by the Asheville Chamber of Commerce with its 2009 "Go Green Award." The honor recognizes the company with business practices that lesson their impact and reduce waste in day to day operations.

Many key reasons are attributed to American Security Shredding’s win of the "Go Green Award." One reason is that 100% of the paper shredded is recycled. Whether the shredding is done with the on-site shred truck or back at the plant based facility, all the material is baled and shipped to recycling mills throughout the Southeast. Also, they were the first company in the U.S. to own and operate the new Vecoplan VST-42e electric shred truck. This system uses Vecoplan’s unique QuickLink "Plug and Play" Docking Technology that allows use as a stationary system when at the facility or purge site by shutting off the truck engine and plugging into 3-phase industrial power. This lets the truck operate efficiently and quietly without fear of hydraulic spills and conserves fuel and energy in the process. American Security Shredding also provides their customers with quarterly statements showing how many trees they have helped save. Many of the containers used at the customer’s offices are made of recycled material.

American Security Shredding has been operating in Asheville, North Carolina since 2003. In order to expand their footprint, they opened a second facility in Gainesville, Georgia during the 4th quarter of 2008. The company continuously looks for new ways to "Go-Green," and their mission is captured in their tagline "Shredding for your Security, Recycling for our Future."
