Description:
Each year, the Ethical Humanist Society of Asheville celebrates the holiday season with “Winterfest,” led by Society members. After the presentation, we will have a pot-luck meal; please bring food to share. We will meet on Sunday, December 16th from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at The Friends Meeting House located at 227 Edgewood Road, Asheville 28804. All are welcome! Please go to our website for details on Winterfest. The Ethical Humanist Society of Asheville endeavors to nurture the capacity and responsibility of human beings to act in their personal relationships and in the larger community to help create a better world. We are inspired by the ideal of working to create a more humane society, recognizing each person’s worth and dignity, and helping to bring out the best in him or her. We are a member of the American Ethical Union and an affiliate of the American Humanist Association. We join together to assist each other in developing ethical ideas and ideals, to celebrate life’s joys, support each other through life’s crises, and to cultivate ethical behavior in our community. Description:
We are once again offering our probably most well-attended program of the year. Come earlier to secure a spot! At “Endings, Beginnings,” participants are invited to write on small strips of paper any unresolved issues, emotional wranglings, destructive habits, resentments, grudges, unhappiness that they want to release and purify before entering a new cycle, a new year. These strips will then be offered into a large singing-bowl which will be sounded 108 times to accompany the 108 singing of the Vajrasattva purification mantra throughout the evening and at the end of the evening, all these strips of paper will be consumed in an outdoor fire symbolizing a new beginning heralded by a new year. This free event is open to everyone in the community. This is our most popular event of the year - come early to find a comfortable spot! Donations accepted with gratitude.
