Description:
Don't miss this amazing opportunity to study with one of our most exciting birth workers! Chama Woydak will share the wonderous and vital uses of a traditional pregancy and birth tool - the rebozo - through the Gena Garcia Kirby Method! What is a rebozo? A rebozo is a long piece of fabric with it's historical roots in the colonization of what is now Mexico. It is much like a scarf or shawl that is hand woven with love. It can be worn in various ways, usually folded or wrapped around the head and/or upper body to shade from the sun, provide warmth and to carry babies and large bundles, especially among indigenous women. Rebozos have been used for comfort and connection during pregnancy and birth for centuries. Participants will: Understand and recognize the important historical and spiritual history of the rebozo to the Mexican culture and how you may use a rebozo in a culturally competent and respectful way! Explore how a rebozo can build relationships and create space, privacy and intimacy during pregnancy, labor and birth. Learn how the rebozo can be used during pregnancy to balance and relax the pelvis, uterus and ligaments to allow more room for the baby to rotate into the optimal position for birth. Identify techniques to use during labor and birth to ease pain, work with contractions to relax and connect with the body and the baby. Identify physical and spiritual uses of the robozo in postpartum period to “close” the physical body and spiritual cycle of the birthing person.  This training has been approved for 6 CEU's from DONA International Equity Seats are available!  In an effort to foster a culturally sensitive, diverse and better-prepared loss support community. Homegrown Babies offers a limited number of equity seats to help offset the cost of attending a Homegrown Babies continuing education training.  Click here to apply! Refund Policy: If you are a birth professional and sign up for this workshop, then you have the potential of being called to a birth at the very time that the training meets. If you are called to a birth and cannot attend, then I will refund your purchase for this event minus a $25 service fee with no questions asked. Refunds may take between 1 to 2 weeks to process. In the event of absence otherwise (sickness, weather, etc.), your registration fee is NON-REFUNDABLE but transferrable to another workshop within the year. About Your Trainer In addition to being a certified Rebozo trainer, Chama Woydak is a DONA certified and Full Specturm Birth Doula, DONA Birth Doula Trainer and Lamaze Childbirth Educator and a trainer for the NC Perinatal Association Lamaze Childbirth Educator Program,. She has been attending births as a birth doula in Asheville since 1999 and teaching childbirth education classes since 2002. Her speciality is pallitave and loss doula support and pregnancy after loss. This class bundle includes the one-time, three-hour Childbirth Refresher Class and the one time Welcome Baby Sibling Class. The Childbirth Refresher Class is for women who have given birth previously.  We will cover what to pack, signs of labor, coping techniques, hands-on comfort measures, labor positons, birth preferences and informed consent, and ideas for sibling integration and postpartum planning. Many families need support for siblings with a new baby. The Sibling Class is designed for you to learn about integrating the new baby to the mix, together with your children. Come to class with your older children and learn ways to welcome the new baby, how siblings can help with the day-to-day tasks a newborn requires, transitioning to a family of four or more, and how to prepare children for the birth of their new brother or sister.  The class will focus on what to expect, the changing family dynamics, challenges with older children such as toilet training and sleep.   Select a Sibling Class to attend - you may attend the sibling class whenever it fits your schedule, prior to, after, or in the same month you attend your Refresher class. The children will paint a onesie for the new baby and create a big brother/sister tee shirt for themselves. They will also receive "I'm the Big Brother/Sister" certificate upon completing the class  This class is appropriate for kids 2 and older.   For this bundle you will pick the date of your refresher class and during checkout you will pick the Saturday for your Sibling Class. You can choose to attend the Sibling Class during the same month as your Refresher class, prior to or after your Refresher class - whatever fits your schedule. And now for the fine print...Because our classes often sell out, we do not offer refunds or transfers for non-medical reasons, so please be sure you can attend the class you register for! If you choose to register for class that will begin after 37 weeks, there are no refunds if your baby arrives beforehand.

The Sibling Class is designed for children ages 2 and older. Each class we sit together and learn the basics about newborns - what they are wearing when they are born, how babies communicate, and what babies need (diapers, clothes, blankets, love).
