Description:

10 Years has come a long way since their inception in 1999. The band landed a deal with Universal/Republic Records on the strength of their two independent releases, 2001’s Into the Half Moon and 2004’s Killing All That Holds You. Their major label debut, 2005’s The Autumn Effect, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Album chart thanks to their breakthrough hit, “Wasteland,” which topped Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart, and “Through the Iris,” which hit No. 20 on Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks.

The band followed that success with 2008’s Division, featuring co-production work from Rick Parashar (Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam). The album peaked at No. 12 on The Billboard 200 and spawned the hit “Beautiful,” which reached No. 6 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks. The momentum continued with 2010’s Feeding the Wolves, which was produced by Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, 3 Doors Down) and bowed at No. 17 on The Billboard 200, while the single, “Shoot It Out,” peaked at No. 6 on Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and spent 25 weeks on the chart.

The group, which toured the world with such rock greats at Linkin Park, Korn, and Deftones, went back to their indie roots with 2012’s Minus the Machine on their own Palehorse Records, which was part of Warner Music Label Group. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Hard Rock Albums chart, No. 8 on the Top Rock Albums chart, and No. 26 on The Billboard 200.

Midnight North In June of 2017 Midnight North is slated to release their third studio album: Under the Lights. On this full length record, Midnight North left it all on the court. Recorded by David Simon-Baker (Los Lobos, ALO, Jackie Greene, Mother Hips) at the Greene Room and Allegiant Studios, Under the Lights features their 11 best new tunes. Expect flares of country on tracks like “The Highway Song” and “Greene County”, tinges of soul on the likes of “Back To California”, but mostly good solid rock and roll. With strong melodies and stronger harmonies, for this band it comes down to one thing: the song.Immediately after their last studio release, 2015’s Scarlet Skies, Midnight North - fronted by lead songwriters Elliott Peck & Grahame Lesh with lush Hammond B3 organ, lead guitar, and harmony work from Alex Jordan and stomping bass lines from Connor O’Sullivan - began touring the country in earnest, visiting the East Coast and the Midwest for the first time in Summer 2015. The band wrote the majority of Under the Lights in the following months, and the lyrical road themes - the initial excitement, the longing for home, and the inherent need to keep moving - shine through.“Under the Lights is the perfect title for this collection of songs,” said O’Sullivan. “These songs and lyrics are about being a band of musicians on the road away from home. Songs literally performed and tested under the lights at countless venues across the US.”Last year, while work in the studio continued, the band’s stream of amazing live shows and festival appearances sped by as the band jammed with heavyweights like Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Tom Hamilton, Mihali Savoulidis, and more. Hitting the road night after night and building their fan base has proved a lot of fun and every time they come back to a city the venues and crowds get bigger while the songs get tighter. “On the road you have an opportunity to dig into what the band is capable of and learn where your limits as a group are and aren’t,” said Jordan. “It was a wonderful opportunity to capture a sound on this album that is identifiably our own.”In addition to all the touring, Midnight North is on year five of holding down Sunday nights at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, CA. To celebrate the occasion, they released a free live album, Live at Terrapin Crossroads in 2016, where Relix Magazine took a shine to “the group’s powerful three-part harmonies.” Performing weekly for a hometown crowd allows a chance to continuously test new material. “I feel like I’ll come to the band with this raw idea and watch it totally come to life,” said Peck.2017 will continue the growth for Midnight North, as the exciting release of Under the Lights helps point the way for more and more fans to discover the band. “These songs tell our story, at least up to this point,” said Lesh. “Our job is to sing you these stories as honestly as we can and transport you into our world for an hour or two.”

Genre: Memphis MusicTickets: adv. $15 / dos. $18Show: 9PM (Doors: 8PM)Ages: 21+ Southern Avenue SOUL-STEEPED YOUNG MEMPHIS QUINTET SOUTHERN AVENUE SPARKS A ROOTS REVOLUTION WITH SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM ON STAXSouthern Avenue is a Memphis street that runs from the easternmost part of the city limits all the way to Soulsville, the original home of Stax Records. Southern Avenue is also the name of a fiery young Memphis quintet that embodies its home city's soul, blues and gospel traditions, while adding a youthful spirit and dynamic energy all their own. "If Memphis music is a genre, this is it!" proclaims American Blues Scene, and Rock 103FM calls Southern Avenue, "The most-talked-about band in Memphis."Their self-titled debut album is a breath of fresh air with its own unique blend of gospel- tinged R&B vocals, roots/blues-based guitar work and soul-inspired songwriting. And Southern Avenue’s upcoming release on the fabled Stax label is a testament to the young combo's talent and vision.Southern Avenue features five young but seasoned musicians who came from diverse musical and personal backgrounds to create music that spans their wide-ranging musical interests, while showcasing the powerful chemistry that the group has honed through stage and studio experience.Southern Avenue encompasses Memphis-born, church-bred sisters Tierinii and Tikyra Jackson, respectively a soulful, charismatic singer and a subtle, powerful drummer; guitarist Ori Naftaly, an Israeli-born blues disciple who first came to America as an acclaimed solo artist; versatile jazz-inspired bassist Daniel McKee; and the band's newest addition, keyboardist Jeremy Powell, an early alumnus of Stax's legendary music academy. The band members' diverse skills come together organically on Southern Avenue, scheduled for release on February 24, 2017 via Stax Records, a division of Concord Music Group. Produced by Kevin Houston (North Mississippi Allstars, Lucero, Patty Griffin), the 10-song album features guest appearances from Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars and trumpeter Marc Franklin of the Bo-Keys. But it's Southern Avenue's own potent musical chemistry that drives such sublimely soulful originals as "Don't Give Up," "What Did I Do," "It's Gonna Be Alright," "Love Me Right" and "Wildflower." The band also pays tribute to its roots with an incandescent reading of Ann Peebles' Memphis soul classic "Slipped, Tripped and Fell in Love."The seeds for Southern Avenue's birth were planted when Ori Naftaly, who'd grown up in Israel with a deeply rooted passion for American blues and funk, came to Memphis in 2013 to compete in the prestigious International Blues Challenge. That experience led to Naftaly moving permanently to Memphis and successfully touring the United States with his own band. Although his talents were embraced by American audiences, Naftaly felt constrained in his own band, feeling the need to include a more expansive, collaborative musical vision. That opportunity arrived when he met Memphis native Tierinii Jackson, who'd gotten her start singing in church, before performing in a series of cover bands and theatrical projects. According to Ori, "When I saw Tierinii perform, I thought, 'This is why I came to America.' I met her and we clicked. At our first rehearsal, she told me that her sister was a drummer, and she thought it would be great to have her in the band. We had such a good vibe, and suddenly I didn't care so much about my solo thing.""I initially clicked with Ori really well, but it was his project," Tierinii remembers. "Then he came to me and said 'I want this band to be a collaboration, I want this to be our vision and our music.' So we started writing together, and that's when I realized that we were really the same, musically.""We started over," Naftaly continues. "We threw out most of the songs I'd been playing in my solo band, and Tierinii and I wrote a whole new set, and we became Southern Avenue. The more we played together, the closer we got, and the more we became a family. We started getting a different kind of crowd, and from there things escalated quickly.""Ori said, 'My band is done, this is y'all's band,'" Tierinii recalls. "We all quit our other gigs and started focusing on this, working and writing and living together in a way that you don't experience when you're playing somebody else's music. Now we're playing songs that we wrote ourselves and we're playing them from our hearts. That is when I realized that we had something special."Despite not having a record deal, Southern Avenue quickly found success touring in America and Europe. They won additional attention playing some prestigious festivals and competing in the International Blues Challenge, in which they represented Memphis. Less than a year after the band's formation, they were signed to the resurgent Stax label. "I feel like being on Stax is a responsibility," says Tierinii. "I grew up in Memphis, seeing the name Stax everywhere. It was a constant presence, and now it's up to us to live up to that. I feel like this band can be a platform to do a lot of positive things for the city of Memphis. I want to change the world, but Memphis is home."Tierinii views Southern Avenue as "a perfect soundtrack to our first year together. We wrote these songs in our first nine months of being a band. We'd all done so many things and come from so many different places, but the music represents all of us."It's been a real crash course," she continues. "We haven't been a band for very long, but what we have feels very special, and it's made us a strong unit. I think that we represent something that people need to see right now.""This band has already made our dreams come true," Ori concludes. "I've waited all my life to be in a band like this, and it's amazing to me that I get to play with these people every night. Our goal is to keep doing this for a long time and leave our mark. We're trying to build a legacy." web: https://www.southernavenuemusic.comvid: https://youtu.be/pPe189a2kRM April B. & The Cool April B. & The Cool is a soulful concoction of jazz, hip-hop, and R&B. The hard-hitting, rotating line-up of The Cool is fronted by multi-instrumentalist April Bennett of Asheville, North Carolina and often features members of the area's coolest bands including Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, LOZ, and The Marcus King Band. You can expect some of the most silky-smooth, soul-stirring vocals you'll ever have the pleasure of hearing, as well as lyrics that will cause you to smile, think, and feel. Listen to The Cool's debut EP "The Sidechick Chronicles: Thanks a lot Mr. Scott" here:https://aprilbandthecool.bandcamp.com/Available everywhere music is streamed and sold! (Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, etc)Visit aprilbmusic.com for more!About the music:"It’s not exactly rock. It’s not straight-ahead jazz. And it’s surely not your average R&B. But it’s definitely Cool. Cool, like the way her skin-tight band responds to every nuance of her songs like a human heartbeat, rising to meet her voice or laying back to let her do her thing. Then there’s that smile when she gets to a certain line, a turn of phrase that catches her ear. Her eyes closed, she’s somewhere else for a few seconds, and then she’s back- bringing that emotion, that joy, that heartbreak, that stolen moment of ecstasy between two lovers. It’s like some smoky, sensual brand of poetry set to music, a lithe, ever-unfolding mix of genres that never lands in one place for too long. That’s what you’ll hear on her debut EP, “The Sidechick Chronicles: Thanks A Lot, Mr. Scott”. On this record, released on April 26, 2017, April B. & The Cool will tell you about secret love, denial, bliss, and abandon over undeniably hip, seamlessly danceable beats. April B. & The Cool is a soulful concoction of heavy and light and rock and funk and jazz and folk and everything in between. We mean hypnotic; we mean casting a spell over an audience that will leave them on their feet cheering or stunned into rapturous silence. We mean “cool,” like April B. and her kickass band."- Vincent Harris (Greenville Journal) web: https://www.aprilbmusic.comvid: https://youtu.be/Q51sdDjzz1I

We experience the stillness of our true self by letting the mind to quiet down and our inner self-expand in the sound of sacred chanting. Through this, each one of us can enjoy the peace born of our true nature. When we chant we open to pure love, and through pure love, we bring peace to the world and to ourselves. Sangita Devi lead kirtan on a weekly basis bringing community together to share in satsang and devotion in Asheville and the Southeast region for 15 years. For more info check out: www.SangitaDevi.com This will be the 14th consecutive New Year's Eve event that Sangita Devi has hosted. We are excited to once again bring our amazing community together to celebrate and bring the new year in together. WHAT IS ECSTATIC DANCE?: It is free-form dance to a soundtrack that is designed to take you on a journey from a deep reflective space, all the way up to a driving high energy peak - and back down again. Some people meditate, some people do yoga, and some dance into ecstatic joy. The most important thing is that other peoples' safety is honored. SOUND HEALING: Sound therapy helps to slow our breath and shift our brainwaves. As the powerful sound waves wash over our bodies, stress and worry dissipates, and our minds thoughts move into the background. Focusing on the landscape of peaceful sounds helps to activate the deep intelligence within our body and spirit...opening us up to a greater perspective, allowing subtle shifts, and healing to happen spontaneously. Here are some of the instruments that Billy uses for each session: planetary gongs, gemstone and crystal (alchemy) bowls, West African harp, didgeridoo, handpan, and many other special instruments. SACRED CACAO: Binah Crabtree has used her depth of knowledge of herbs and cacao to create special blends used for Cacao ceremonies. Sacred Cacao blends will be available for purchase in the Lounge. TEA: The Tea Lounge is an Intentionally curated space with a delightful selection of aromas, tastes, smell, lighting, and subtle soundscapes. For many bands, and especially those who’ve been together for several years, recognizing maturation, progress or palpable evolution is a daunting task. Is it continued creative accomplishment that signals progression? Or perhaps it’s profitable commercial endeavors? The answer is often quite unclear. Six years, two albums and countless gigs after first forming as a band, River Whyless, the North Carolina-bred folk-rock outfit has discovered their evolution is a subtler albeit monumentally important one. Deep in the throes of writing and recording their bold new album, Kindness, A Rebel , the four musicians reached a necessary and collective understanding. Namely: this band is their lifeblood, their family and their love. To that end, with unspoken acceptance, the members of River Whyless, each songwriters in their own right, collectively put aside their respective egos, coalesced around each other’s creative vision, and fully embraced the beauty of their enduring partnership.

“It was a feeling of openness and hope and acceptance,” says singer-violinist Halli Anderson of the multi-week sessions with producer Paul Butler (Devendra Banhart, Michael Kiwanuka) that resulted in some of River Whyless’ most dynamic, genre-bending and heartfelt material yet. Creatives regularly waver between honoring their own creation and rallying around larger ideas for the benefit of the group. But with every member of River Whyless now charting a life outside the band, and also writing on their own, when coming together to record Kindness it was never more crucial they be open and honest with each other.

Despite having never felt more unified in their vision for the future, much as they’ve navigated their freewheeling career to date, River Whyless is choosing to not predict what lies ahead. Allowing their creative union to continue guiding them, they insist, remains their only constant. “It feels like you’re on a journey with your family,” McWalters says of the satisfaction of being in a band like River Whyless. “It’s a beautiful thing.”

Join us for the 3rd Annual 'Ball in the Hal'l with The Grass Is Dead!! As alwasy we've got a VERY special show planned for our favorite city and favorite venue to play at!! Can't wait to see all of ya'll in the HALL!!! Genre: Bluegrass/Grateful DeadTickets: $20.00Show: 10PM (Doors: 9PM)Ages: 21+ The Grass Is DeadWhat’s in a name? Sometimes, everything… Grass is Dead are a bluegrass combo paying homage to the music and cultural legacy of The Grateful Dead, arguably America’s first folk rock band and one of the most influential musical artists of the last 50 years. The catalogue of the Dead’s music is a gold mine for string bands and story tellers, and Grass Is Dead have established themselves far and wide as premiere purveyors of this rich tradition of Americana music. Pickin’ and grinnin’ is what they do best, and they have been adapting Grateful Dead songs in their own bluegrass style since 1998.A festival favorite, Grass is Dead has built a loyal following from their home state of FL throughout the Eastern United States through burning live shows, and well beyond, through word of mouth, social media and old fashioned taper trees. The demand for Grateful Dead music is seemingly endless, and there are countless cover bands satisfying that demand on the local level, but there are not many artists out there approaching the music from the perspective of Grass is Dead. It is not complicated or artsy: this is a straight forward hootenanny built to last, and fans of either bluegrass music, The Grateful Dead, or both always leave happy, because sometimes there’s nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile…Web: https://www.grassisdead.com/Video: https://youtu.be/xmnbQpTJXLQListen: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2FnpSXiTyRFGgexYnmGOs5

Description:

As an emerging female country artist in Nashville, history suggests that the quickest path to success is somehow aligning oneself with one of the major publishers, producers, songwriters, labels, or managers that are the heart of Music Row. So what do you do if you are an emerging female country artist in Nashville, and also happen to be the granddaughter of musical icon, Willie Nelson? You hook up with an independent producer and veteran of the rock/punk scene, write some songs that are part Loretta Lynn, part Cheap Trick, and form the Raelyn Nelson Band. Raelyn Nelson has been singing since she can remember. Having been raised on a steady diet of traditional country and gospel music, a gift from her grandpa in the form of a guitar during her teenage years was the inspiration she needed to begin writing her own country and folk songs. Looking for a place to record these songs, a mutual friend suggestedJB (Jonathan Bright), a veteran of the underground rock scene and independent producer. After recording some of these early songs, they decided to try to write some things together and see what happened. The result? A completely fresh and original sound, a true hybrid referred to by some critics as "Country/Garage Rock." When they aren't recording their songs or making music videos, they are on the road taking their high energy live show to the people. Having shared the stage with such diverse musical acts as country superstar Tim McGraw, indie rock icons Drivin' n Cryin', and jam band supergroup Hard Working Americans, the RNB is proving that you don't have to fit neatly into any particular "genre" to find success. "I don't really have any desire to be a 'solo-artist'. Everyone in my family who plays music has always placed a lot of importance on band chemistry, on stage, off stage and in the studio. Our band can almost read each other's minds. Why would I mess with that? We try to keep it simple: Write songs we like, record them, make a video, then go out and play them for people."- Raelyn Nelson

Somewhat Petty is a new Asheville-based tribute band playing the best of rock icon Tom Petty, and, of course, the Heartbreakers, with some Traveling Wilburys thrown in for good measure. Somewhat Petty is comprised of 6 local musicians, all with one common goal: playing great rock music everyone loves - 40 years of Tom Petty & company. They dont look like them, they just sound like them. Come out, drink a few, and sing along!Rest in peace, Tom Petty. Thank you for the amazing music you've given us for over 40 years. It truly has been the soundtrack of our lives. For about a year now, Somewhat Petty has been playing Tom's music. It never gets old... it makes us feel like we did when we first heard it. We find ourselves in the stories and get lost in the melodies. The people we play for love it just as much as we do. Most of the songs we play, they sing right along with us... it's amazing, really it is! As much as there is a void in our lives now, I can't even imagine the hole left in the hearts of his family, bandmates, and friends. Our thoughts and prayers and love go out to them. Tom, you will be missed forever. We love you.

Over the first 4 Saturday afternoons in 2019, Dr. Lye will present the Tibetan Buddhist tradition of "training the mind" (Tib. lojong) by emphasizing an experiential and contemplative approach to the slogans found in the famous classic known as "Training the Mind in Seven Points." Each Saturday will include heart-instructions, short guided contemplations, and Q&A. Dr. Lye’s approach is very clear, practical, unpretentious & relevant to our context here in the West. He’s able to provide a historical and cultural context to the Buddha’s words that deepens our understanding here in the West. Dr. Lye is a rare bridge between cultures as he was born and raised in Asia but has lived and taught for the last twenty years in the US.

Description:

Come celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the WHITE ALBUM with Abbey Road LIVE!, the Southeast’s premier Beatles tribute band.

In 1968, The Beatles were at the top of their game. They had ushered in rock’s psychedelic era with their groundbreaking Sgt Pepper album., and successfully completed the transition from mop-topped pop superstars to sophisticated songwriters, Meanwhile their musical output was growing more prolific.

By the summer of 1968, John, Paul, George and Ringo had written so many new songs that a regular two-sided album simply wouldn’t suffice. And so on Nov 22, 1968 they released a double LP simply titled “The Beatles”, which immediately came to be known as the WHITE ALBUM. The 4 sides of vinyl contained thirty songs that covered vast swaths of musical ground – rock n roll, blues, folk, country, ska, avant-garde, and even heavy metal.

Come hear the best of the White Album come to life as Abbey Road LIVE! pays tribute to this amazing musical work! Favorites such as “Back In The U.S.S.R”, “Dear Prudence”, and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” will be performed alongside rarely heard oddities like “Bungalow Bill”, “Piggies”, and “Happiness is a Warm Gun”.

Additionally, the show will include a second set of tunes spanning the entire Beatles catalog!
