with FEELS
When Ex Hex exploded onto the scene with their unfettered brand of rock and riffage, the power trio for our generation had finally arrived. Made up of Mary Timony (guitar, vocals), Betsy Wright (bass, vocals), and Laura Harris (drums), the groups 2014 debut Rips was a gleaming collection of tightly wound gems that scored Best New Music honors from Pitchfork, the top spot on Magnet Magazines Best of 2014 list, and No. 11 in that years Pazz & Jop critics poll. Near-constant touring throughout 2015 and 2016 established the band as a force to be reckoned with: an audacious three-piece distilling rock music to its essence with formidable skills and a reputation for frenzied and unabashedly fun live shows. On Its Real, the groups forthcoming second album, Ex Hexs commitment to larger-than-life riffs and unforgettable hooks remains intact, but the garage-y, post-punk approach that defined Rips has grown in scale and ambition. What started as a reaction to the blown-out aesthetic of Rips would test the sonic limits of the power trio and lead the band on a quest for a more immersive and three-dimensional sound. Vocal harmonies are layered ten tracks deep, solos shimmer and modulate atop heaving power chords, and the codas linger and stretch toward new frontiers of sound. On first listen, you might think youve unearthed a long-lost LP carved from the space where crunch-minded art rock and glitter-covered hard rock converge, an event horizon at the intersection of towering choruses and swaggering guitars.Produced by Jonah Takagi (who also produced Rips), Its Real was a more collaborative effort than its predecessor. Mary and Betsy could be found writing late into the night, leaning on Takagi to tighten up arrangements. Egos were surrendered in service to the music: Nothing was sacred or precious, and there was a relentless devotion to both songcraft and exploration. Dozens of guitar amps sat mic-ed in the next room, and the group experimented at a frenzied pace parsing countless combinations of instruments, pedals, and amps. They even dusted off Marys old Rockman, a small headphone amp designed by Boston guitarist Tom Scholz in 1982. Mary recounts, Its only about the size of a Walkman and takes eight AA batteries, but it sounds massive. We read that parts of [Def Leppards] Hysteria were tracked through it, and when we finally plugged it in, it blew our minds! The opening track Tough Enough is punky and defiant, with stacked backing vocals posing the question Are you tough enough (to let it go)? thats resoundingly answered in the affirmative by a searing, triumphant guitar solo. Cosmic Cave is a bittersweet rave-up with shimmering phased guitars, a gooey-candied chorus, and beamed-in whoa-oh-ohs that add a touch of melancholia to the frenzied speed-of-sound pace. The ferocious and anthemic Rainbow Shiner is what Wright describes as a victory song. Her mordacious central riff is coupled with dueling guitar-god solos that explode from the stereo spectrum. The starlit Another Dimension has it all: pounding drums, palm-muted humbucking chugs, soaring harmonized vocals, and a stark, ethereal bridge that sends listeners deep into the lush sonic landscape that the band set out to create.Ex Hex were already one of Americas best guitar bandsbut on Its Real, their musical savvy has thrillingly combined with anything-goes curiosity, studio experimentation, and a dedication to refinement, resulting in an album thats ready to be played at maximum volume.

JGBCB Formed in Athens, GA in 2012, JGBCB has been filling a hole in the Grateful Dead scene by offering up spirited covers of classic songs pulled exclusively from the repertoire of the Jerry Garcia Band, Garcia's long-running side-project. JGBCB has played shows from Key West to Colorado, exciting audiences with performances of beloved Garcia tunes not found within the traditional Grateful Dead catalog. The Jerry Garcia Band (famously known to Dead Heads as "JGB") was as much a songwriting outlet for Garcia as it was a chance for him to cover the music he loved. With Jerry and bassist John Kahn as the band's staples (playing together as far back as 1970), a varied set of keyboardists, drummers, and backup singers filled out the lineup over the years, each bringing their own unique character to the band. Over the course of it's existence, JGB played a number of diverse musical styles, covering artists such as The Beatles, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, The Band, Jimmy Cliff, Smoky Robinson, The Rolling Stones, the Wailers, J.J. Cale, and Ray Charles. The list goes on and on, recalling the names of rock, soul, and folk royalty. It is with a deep love of Jerry Garcia's music and the music that he loved that the members of JGBCB approach this project. The band came together for a single show in December 2012, which led to a local weekly residency in Athens. The positive response they received ultimately led JGBCB to tour around the country, giving fans all over a taste of the music of the Jerry Garcia Band. Count on hearing different material from night to night, consisting of JGB staples and deep cuts. How sweet it is!

Description:

Growing up in North Wales, I'd spend those summer days lying on the ground in the hay field at the front of the house, looking up to the sky, imagining familiar shapes in the clouds. Only thing was, the grass in the deep days of summer was often too high to even see any sky at all, youd just disappear into the perfect hiding place. I think writing these songs became a different type of hiding place for me. Making this album has felt like trying to get a glimpse of the sky. This week, the wind blew the grass clear and we finally set eyes on that beautiful, formidable sky again. While the world today often feels more alluring & uglier than it was when we began this musical journey, I'm nevertheless reminded at how powerful music can be, how it heals, hurts, and how it wakes you up. I can't wait to share this madness with the rest of you someday soon. - Lots of love, RB (Ritzy Bryan)THE JOY FORMIDABLEAAARTH makes a statement unlike its predecessors. Drawing inspiration from a worldwide climate of political and social uncertainty the band transplanted themselves in Utah's vivid natural landscape immersed in a collage of colors and light, the ever fluid and expansive Southwestern sky mirroring our rapidly-changing world. The deep burnt-orange rocks and canyons became touchstones as the band formed the sonic landscapes of AAARTH. From soaring choruses to percussive pulsating guitars, The Joy Formidable paint an 11 song musical tapestry deftly balancing a sound as grounded as their ancient surroundings and as elusive and mind-bending as a gloaming desert sky.AAARTH first came to life on the road penning lyrics and recording selected parts in hotel rooms around the world. They self-produced and mixed most of the album in their mobile recording studio. This critically adored trio is comprised of Ritzy Bryan (lead vocals, guitars), Rhydian Dafydd (bass, backing vocals) and Matt Thomas (drums, percussion). Formed in North Wales 10 years ago, each album they've released has been a joyful adventure and reflection of their fearless creative discovery and self evolution. The Joy Formidable has always refused to be fenced in or fit in. That restless and boundless artistic journey continues on their fourth album, an arresting and unapologetic tour de force that finds a band at its apex with no sign of getting comfortable.Certainly, the road to AAARTH hasnt always been easy. Staying together as a band for 10 years requires immense tenacity and passion, both of which The Joy Formidable have never lost. That same tenacity echoes in their new unrelenting affecting musical treatise. The songs, melodies, and arrangements on AAARTH soar seamlessly from the personal to the epic sometimes in loneliness, vulnerability, disillusionment, joy,and redemption, but all the while refusing to deny the persistence of our own and other's imperfectly beautiful humanity. Fernando Chamerelli's evocative album art frames this vibrant, diverse, and playful melodic and lyrical collage. While the sounds build the mood at the heart of this album are haunting songs that don't let go, Cicada (Land On Your Back) draws on the shamanistic influence of Utah, infusing the melody with a lingering psychedelic impression. We wanted some kind of rebirth, the way you do in a tribal drug ceremony, Rhydian says. We wanted to lose ourselves and start again. These themes of feeling lost and letting go only to reconnect with yourself thread through the songs. In "All and All" these themes are echoed, as the guitars hypnotically build into a crashing tide of reckless abandon, hope, yearning, and desperation.Theres one little part of methat doesnt want to let goIts easier to be the old meIm tired of staring down the price of braveryAll in all theres something missingAll in all theres something you can doI wont play it down or pretend I havent found Because all in all theres something in youThe album is book-ended by two songs that calls for a world less divided, offering a dual desire that we take on the challenge to find love and forgiveness across entrenched divisions, while reminding us that healing journey cannot happen unless we also allow forgiveness and love for ourselves. Y Bluen Eira, written in Welsh, invokes a white feather, a symbol of weakness in British history, and a snowflake. Its very easy to write off a whole group of people just by labeling them, Ritzy notes. That leads to a lack of communication and isolation. If we can be curious and courageous, then maybe we will find conversation across the spectrums that divide us and maybe even find new patterns to heal our world and ourselves".From the contagiously sweeping sonic feast of "You Can't Give Me" to the careening and addictive "All and All", (possibly one of the more wrenching and beautiful rock ballads since the Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps" shattered male dominated rock radio over a decade ago), their new record grasps its listener tight and refuses to let go. NME has written that, 'The Joy Formidable has always sounded so much bigger than the stages they inhabit'. With the release of AAARTH later this year, we are poised for the moment where the size of this band's stages, may just yet, catch up with their sound. For a band who never coveted nor chased mainstream success a much wider audience awaits and, as always for this Welsh trio, it arrives on their timeline and will be met on their own terms.

The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a family concert series hosted at historic music venues across the country, allows kids to move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon (NY Times). Performing songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history, The Rock and Roll Playhouse band offers its core audience of families with children age ten and under games, movement, stories and an opportunity to rock out in an effort to educate children and explore their creativity. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a childs lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll. See you at the show. The Rock and Roll Playhouse knows that little ears are sensitive, so we turn down the volume at our shows. As long as he could remember there was music surrounding his life. Woody’s Father, AL Wood, was an important figure in Contemporary Bluegrass Music throughout the 60’s and 70’s helping define that genre of music alongside bands like ‘Seldom Scene’ and ‘Country Gentlemen’. AL Wood was well respected for his songwriting, tenor singing, and banjo playing putting out records when Bluegrass was just beginning to get popular. Playing at the Grand Ole Opry 3 times and performing at the White House were among some of the great achievements of AL Wood’s career. Woody’s Mom influenced him through encouraging him to listen to her collection of rock n roll records turning him on to artists like Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Rockabilly music.Being the youngest of 5 kids, all of whom played instruments or sang, Woody was immersed in music and tradition from a very young and formative time in his life. His first memory of being on stage was at the young age of 6 where he played a tiny banjo his Dad had made for him. He played and sang next to his Dad and Bill Monroe that day. Between the old time bluegrass his Father and brothers played and The Piedmont Blues that he was drawn to in his teenage years, his musical styles and influences were taking shape through his guitar playing and songwriting. At 20, Aaron Woody Wood moved to the Asheville, NC mountains and soon began busking on the downtown streets with what would end up becoming the members of the Rag n Roll swing style Ragtime music of The Blue Rags - and would be the start of Woody’s musical career as an artist. When Woody was 23 the band was signed to Sub Pop Records and began touring, eventually recording 2 CD's and playing in 47 states across the country and abroad over the following 5 years before disbanding. Along the tours they opened up for some of the greatest like Alabama, Leon Russell, Southern Culture on the Skids, Santana, Pavement, and Ziggy Marley in places like The Oregon Country Fair, High Sierra Fest, City Stages in Birmingham, Al and SummerFest in Milwaukee. Woody was featured in Acoustic Guitar Player Magazine in April of 1998 for the work that was being released during these years.Over the next 10 years Aaron Woody Wood had many successes as a solo artist and began various bands in Asheville like the Sufi Brothers, Custard Pie, and Hollywood Red, opening up for Mountain and Kenny Wayne Shepard. In 2006 he was featured on the CMT television show Big Break, where he beat out over 400 local Asheville musicians to open for Country Superstar Sara Evans. The show aired numerous times on the network. Woody spent those years all over the country doing club shows and festivals like Bonaroo and The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.New Orleans has always been like a second home to Woody. While spending time in The Big Easy he recorded 2 albums and performed regularly with the Blue Brass Project, a blend of traditional New Orleans jazz and bluegrass music. The Blue Brass sessions features Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Woody, members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Larry Keel, and Trombone Shorty. He performed in New Orleans at Voodoo Fest and JazzFest in 2011 and 2012 with the Mardi Gras Indian funk band, the 101 Runners.Over the past few years Woody has been doing studio work and opening up for acts like Brad Paisley, Buddy Guy, Jamey Johnson, Kellie Pickler, David Holt and Tony Joe White. He sang on The Avett Brothers 2013 release Magpie and The Dandelion and plays at the annual XMas Jam in Asheville, NC every year. His newest release was recorded at Fleetwood Shack Studios in Nashville Tennessee where he joined some of his bandmates from The Blue Rags. "Sunshine" features Woody on guitar and vocals, Bill Reynolds as producer and bass player and Mike Rhodes on drums. It also features Micky Raphael (Willie Nelson) on harmonica, Jimmy Wallace ( Joe Walsh) on organ - and was mastered by Rob Frabone (Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Bob Marley....).Woody continues to focus on songwriting and fresh styles of guitar picking while collaborating on new creative projects.web: http://www.aaronwoodywood.com/vid: https://youtu.be/cghG4SnZ_KATony Holiday BandTony Holiday and The Velvetones mix their many influences into a musical gumbo of Dirty Rock and Down Home Blues . Worthwhile Sounds Presents: Mary Lattimore & Mac McCaughan WHEN: Sunday May 5th, 2019 WHERE: Ambrose West 312 Haywood road Asheville, NC 28806 DOORS: 7pm SHOW: 8pm AGES: All Ages SEATING: Seated Show TICKETS ON SALE Friday February 22 at 10am: $15 ADV / $15 DOS / $20 VIP Mary Lattimore & Mac McCaughan When I was very young I developed a fascination with the makeup of the classic symphony orchestra, in large part due to the fact that my grandfather was on the board of the Jackson, Mississippi symphony. Most of my interests in life led to some sort of obsession with taxonomy, and the sheer variety of instruments was what probably grabbed me at first. I recall my grandad saying something about the harp, that was like an ‘open piano,’ piano being his primary instrument at the time. I never even began to grasp the complex universe of this otherworldly instrument even as my own fascination with stringed instruments developed over the years. I’ll admit some bias here. Mary Lattimore and Mac McCaughan are both dear friends and collaborators. But they are also two people to whom I look for a sort of life inspiration because they share similar prismatic views of life’s possibilities – an unbridled enthusiasm and a desire to be constantly seeking. This endless and rambling energy certainly informs the music that they make separately, but coming together here as a duo makes so much sense, spiritually as much as musically. And as the results will testify to your ears, it’s a lovely concord of sounds they’ve made for you. I don’t know how you feel, but if our current social and cultural landscape is one of exhausting noise, chaos, and unconscious verbalism, then the pieces on New Rain Duets express an impossibly gorgeous anecdote. Diaphanous melody emerges from the strings of Mary’s harp, at times reminiscent of a room full of antique music boxes playing different songs but in accord. The synthesizer textures from Mac float in and around the harp’s arpeggios, warm like cloud cover, then disturbed and more harshly electronic. Like the textures on Bowie’s Berlin albums with Eno, there is a ceaseless sense of beauty and foreboding coexistent. The four movements in this collaboration snake and float through a liminal sonic universe, without a linear sense of tension/release but rather a calm and brooding build into a widening pool of immersive sound. The title, New Rain Duets, gives me an evocative sense of just that, rain falling in some far off locale, a sort of psychedelic natural tone poem. One of the great strengths of this duo is that both artists are consistently searching with their own sounds. Mary manipulates her harp with loop and delay pedals while Mac mimics on his synthesizers, layering and processing as he goes. The final marriage of tones and players yields the perfect balance of acoustic and electronic. It’s a new vein of chamber music, both meditative and exploratory. As a Southerner, I guess I want to make something of a case for the North Carolina roots of both Mary and Mac, that as if there’s some sort of rural Gothic energy flowing through these sounds like ghosts in the countryside. That would be disingenuous to both artists though. The truth is “cosmic music” doesn’t belong to anyone of a particular time or geography. It lives not just in the notes played but the ones in between, and when rendered in such a way as this record, it yields a thing of true beauty and wonder. William TylerBig Bear Lake, CA

Description:

Bad Bad Hats is an indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band consists of Kerry Alexander, Chris Hoge, and Connor Davison. Named for a trouble-making character from the Madeline children's books, Bad Bad Hats is defined by a balance of sweet and sour. Their music honors classic pop songwriting, with nods to nineties rock simplicity and pop-punk frivolity. Through it all, Alexander's unflinchingly sincere lyrics cut to the emotional heart of things.Alexander and Hoge met while attending Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In 2012, they formed Bad Bad Hats with friend and bassist Noah Boswell, and began performing around the Twin Cities. That same year, they were signed by Minneapolis label Afternoon Records. Their 2015 debut album Psychic Reader caught the attention of outlets including The New Yorker, NPR, Pitchfork, and Paste. Since the release of Psychic Reader, Bad Bad Hats has toured the U.S. extensively, supporting artists including Margaret Glaspy, Hippo Campus, and Third Eye Blind.Lightning Round, the band's second full-length album, finds Bad Bad Hats more confident and mature than ever. Producer and collaborator Brett Bullion (who also produced Psychic Reader) encouraged the group to record live in the studio, an approach which pushed the band outside of their comfort zone and lends many songs on the record a loose, organic feel. There is a vulnerability in this (fluttering tape loops, a few wrong notes) and it makes the music on the new album feel as honest and unpredictable as Alexander's lyrics. In this spontaneous environment, Hoge, who is known to play every instrument in the band, delivers some of his most inspired musical performances yet.As for Alexander, she's still writing love songs, ones that recount with cinematic swell the subtle joy and pain of the everyday. Her vocals are supported by open, breathing arrangements that feature lush keyboard sounds and woody guitar tones. Davison was recruited to play drums on the album and became a full-time member in the process. His drumming and melodic contributions give the new songs a level of nuance not heard in previous releases.Lightning Round marks the final release with contributions from original member Noah Boswell, who will be leaving the group this fall to pursue a master's degree. Bad Bad Hats continues with Alexander, Hoge, and Davison. They have plans to tour the country this year.

with Elijah Ray, Handmade Moments
A poet, musician, visionary and mystic, Ayla Nereo is an otherworldly artist who shares the fruits of her soul. ~ The Huffington Post[Aylas] relationship with the earth is imprinted in her music thickly layered tracks where expansive and intriguing instrumentals serve as an intricate backdrop for her delicate and soft-spoken vocals. ~ BillboardI am here to receive songs that help us remember our origins, our incredible human potential, and our right relationship with all Life. - ORWe are born of dust and silence. We are made of ancient song.So sings the luminous singer, songwriter, poet and producer Ayla Nereo, who is spearheading a revolution within the new-folk and indie-electronic music communities, opening the hearts and minds of devoted audiences around the world with the clarion call of her powerful voice.Every live performance with Ayla is its own inspired journey. Sometimes alone with an acoustic guitar and minimalist electronic accompaniment, other times armed with an array of loop-pedals and bandmates, Nereo is known for building layers upon layers of intricate vocal melodies into fierce, sweeping harmonies, weaving in syncopated threads of guitar, kalimba, piano, percussion, strings, celtic beats, even hip-hop wordplay. Her timeless, genre-melding lyrical imagery is both authentic and anthemic. Mantras of hope and self-acceptance, odes to nature, healing and of course, love, her songs call us to listen deeper, to connect to ourselves, each other and the planet. Often compared vocally and lyrically to Joni Mitchell, her arrangements and stage presence are something more modern and fierce, a realness, energy and innocence closer to Aurora or Imogen Heap. Raised with a spirit of wonder and a connection to magic, Nereo was unschooled by her music-loving parents in northwest Sonoma County, California until the age of 13. My imagination was kept safely intact, Nereo says. Exposed to a wide variety of musical influences - from Cat Stevens, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell to ABBA to Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, at age 9 she was already a proficient Suzuki method pianist and taught herself classical songs on piano by ear.I fantasized about making songs and singing, Nereo says, but I had a strange paranoia I was tone-deaf, so I wrote it off as impossible, and stuck to dancing, filmmaking, and writing poetry and stories. The nature-based experiential learning of her youth fostered her childlike wonder and creativity, but when she entered the school system, the former free-spirit found herself grappling with the stress of grades, body image issues and mental health. Ultimately that led her to study psychology at Stanford, from which she graduated with her BA in 2006.After 8 years in the standard school system, Nereo had almost forgotten about her creative pursuits. Then she discovered Bob Dylan, listened to his lyrics for hours and hours on end, and her poetry and songwriting were awoken. Songs began to simply pour through, she says.Terrified of singing for much of her life, I had such a journey through fear and self-doubt about being seen and heard by others, says Nereo, I know now this is a very deep pattern in most women, that fear of being hurt or killed for being powerful, because of the incredible trauma in our history when millions of women were burned for being healers and leaders. Luckily, those around her kept begging her to sing. So I kept singing, she explains. My voice emerged from hiding and slowly the fear was released. A decade later, shes performed at festivals across the nation and internationally, including Symbiosis (OR), Lightning in a Bottle (CA), Rainbow Serpent (Australia), Beloved Festival (OR), ARISE (CO), Blessed Coast (Canada), Envision (Costa Rica), Unifier (MA), What The Festival (OR), Enchanted Forest Gathering (CA), Unify (NM), Imagine (WA), Sonic Bloom (CO), Lucidity (CA), Serenity Gathering (CA), and at Red Rocks Amphitheater.Shes also released ten albums: five solo albums, two Wildlight albums (the collaboration project of Ayla and The Polish Ambassador), one collaboration album with Mr Lif and The Polish Ambassador, and two albums with sibling project Beatbeat Whisper. Many of my songs are about trusting ourselves, allowing our innate power and beaming brightness to shine through, Nereo explains. Her songs also touch deeply on human beings connection to - and sometimes tragic disconnection from - the natural world. A devoted ally of the planet, Nereo considers herself an earth guardian and voice for the voiceless -- trees, animals and creatures, children, women who are silenced, the elements, and the unseen realms. Her most recent album, The Code of the Flowers, came in a vision, and is a spellbinding dedication to the plants and waters of the earth.Im here to receive these songs and share them into the world, she says, to be the vehicle for them to ignite the hope, wonder and fierce love needed to evolve in these times. Ayla collaborates in music and life with her partner of 5 years, electronic music composer David Sugalski, aka The Polish Ambassador. They live off-grid on land in the mountains of northwest California, with their dog and two cats. She is currently working on two music videos and a new full-length album.

This event is free and open to the public. Please stay tuned to Malaprop's website for details (www.malaprops.com). For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. She’s barefoot and wild; unfit for polite society. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark. But she is not what they say. One by one, her siblings and parents walked away, leaving her alone with the marsh as her only provider and companion. Solitude is not easy. Yearning to be touched and loved, Kya is drawn to two young men from town, both intrigued by her wild beauty. Each man offers different paths and promises of worlds beyond the marsh—but lies can be told, promises broken, and a tumble from an old fire tower can look a lot like murder.

Over the last three decades, Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys have kept up a constant cycle of traveling back and forth across the lower 48, then hopping across the pond to Europe and beyond. They bring with them a brand of American music that has earned them an induction into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, several national television appearances, guest spots on The Grand Ole Opry, and a slew of adoring fans.I truly love being out on the road, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to sing my songs all over the world, said Sandy. But when I'm away from the U.S. for too long, it's like I need a recharge... like I need a solid dose of everything Americana. Give me a Chuck Berry song while rolling down the interstate, or a truck stop conversation with a waitress who once danced with Lefty Frizzell, and I'm good for another three thousand miles .

Description:

Inspiration seeped through the windows of apartment 5J on Barrow Street looking out over the Hudson River in NYCs Greenwich Village, where singer-songwriters and Broadway performers, Eryn Murman and Jason Hite, soaked up the energy and passion of musicians, painters, poets and writers who created the Village vibe. Together, they paid tribute to those creative spirits and named their band 5j Barrow, writing music and lyrics with a unique folk/rock sound, touring as a duo, and often picking up Drew Jones on bass and Gerard Canonico on drums. The band has inspired audiences with soulful music, evocative imagery, and lyrics that touch the heart, from the historic Apollo Theater to the open air of Washington Square Park, from the streets of New Orleans to the Rocky Mountains, from California wine country to New England forests. The duo of Eryn Murman and Jason Hite who originally formed the band in 2011, forged an even stronger bond when they married in 2017. Since then, theyve toured the country and discovered new inspiration in the mountains of Asheville, NC, a supportive artistic community that resembles the old Village vibe that sparked 5js values in independent artistry, community and collaboration. They still travel and tour, a favorite of Sofar Sounds in dozens of cities, and play diverse music venues, house concerts, restaurants, breweries and festivals all over North America.5j Barrow was named Best Band in NY after winning The Greene Space WNYC/WQXRs Battle of the Boroughs 2014. 5j Barrow released their debut album From the Dim, Sweet Light in 2014, and their first two installments of three EPs, produced by Grammy nominated producer David Mayfield, were released October 6th, 2017 (The Journey, Vol. 1) and May 19th, 2018 (The Journey, Vol. 2). The Journey, Vol. 3 is scheduled to release in 2019.
