Many of Asheville’s citizens and its visitors may have noticed in the past week that Google is now including our city in its Street View, part of Google Maps.
Google Street View provides interactive, 360-degree rotations of the city’s streets. Google has officially said that to keep in-line with privacy concerns, it has only included public roads in its results.
Earlier in 2008, Google dispatched vehicles mounted with cameras on top to photograph Asheville’s streets, and has now assimilated that information into their Google Maps service.
Citizens concerned with privacy may contact Google and ask them to remove any offending views, at the company’s discretion.
