Governor Perdue to Introduce New Education Initiative in January

RALEIGH, NC – Gov. Beverly Perdue says education will remain a top focus for her administration during 2010. She say she plans to introduce a new program called “Ready Set Go”, which she hopes will help more students graduate high school.

“There will be a way that North Carolina will continue to be a preeminent educational leader as we make sure that every kid stays on grade level and goes through our public school system on a scale, a trajectory to graduate high school, career, vocational or college ready. You’ve got to do that.”

She recently told reporters that her recent trip to China prompted a greater “sense of urgency” to fix the drop out problem. “If you take every kid in America’s school houses and dump them into a pot, we were told that the Chinese have more gifted and talented programs than all those in America,” said Perdue. “So it’s imperative for North Carolina that we don’t lose 30 percent of our children.”
