Great Smokey Mountain Railroad Celebrates July 4th with ‘Freedom Train Picnic Dinner’

Lone Ranger Comes to the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad

ASHEVILLE, NC – America’s favorite legend brings law and order to the mountains of western North Carolina at the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad June11 – 12.. During the ride, The Lone Ranger and his faithful companion Tonto will save the train from outlaws who intend to rob the baggage car that is carrying a shipment of gold!

There will be an array of cowboy and western activities at the depot for people of all ages. Enjoy live music, old west cowboy roping demonstrations, western themed games, original episodes of The Lone Ranger playing in the theater, a Lone Ranger look-a-like contest and much more! Polar Express Returns to the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad

BYSON CITY, NC – Great Smoky Mountains Railroad will delight passengers who take the memorable one-hour journey to an imaginary North Pole. The event is inspired by the Warner Bros. motion picture and the award winning book by Chris Van Allsburg. Bring the whole family and experience the magic of THE POLAR EXPRESS and read along with the story as the train makes its round trip journey to the North Pole. Meet Santa and enjoy caroling, hot cocoa & a treat. And, for those who BELIEVE, a special momento from Santa for each child. Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas!

The ‘Great Pumpkin Patch Express’ Returns to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

Book Your Ticket to Ride The Great Pumpkin Patch Express PEANUTS. The Great Pumpkin Patch Express returns to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad for 2010. As the leaves are turning in October and pumpkins are ready to be carved, Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Snoopy return to the GSMR Pumpkin Patch October 2, 2010.

Guests will hear a narration of Schulz’s “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” as the train travels to the Pumpkin Patch. Upon arrival, passengers will be greeted and have a photo opportunity with Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Snoopy. Activities to enjoy at The Great Pumpkin Patch will include: campfire marshmallows, a coloring station, temporary tattoos, trick or treating, bouncy house, hayrides and live musical entertainment. And kids, don’t forget to wear your Halloween costumes! There will be plenty of PEANUTS™ merchandise at the Smoky Mountain Trains gift shop! Each child will also select their own pumpkin from The Great Pumpkin Patch to take home.

Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Hosts ‘Peanuts Easter Beagle Express’

BRYSON CITY, NC – The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is pleased to announce our Peanuts Easter Beagle Express on Friday, April 2nd, and Saturday, April 3rd, 2010. Trains will depart the historic Bryson City depot at 10:30am.

The train will travel along the Tuckasegee River, cross over the Fontana Lake Trestle and into the Nantahala River Gorge for a 4 ½ hour journey. Celebrate springtime aboard this festive Holiday event.

Passengers will join Snoopy, Lucy, Charlie Brown and our Easter Bunnies for old fashioned Easter fun during the 1 hour layover at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. Festivities include an Easter egg hunt with special prizes, egg decorating, storytelling, coloring sheets, temporary tattoos, snacks with Snoopy and more. There will also be plenty of opportunities for pictures, so do not forget your camera!

Advance tickets are required, as seating is limited. Adult tickets are $49.00 and children two and up are $29.00. Ask about our Crown Coach upgrades and upgraded dining option!

Admission to the Smoky Mountain Trains Museum is included with ticket purchase. Without tickets, admission to the museum is $9 for adults and $5 for children.

Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Announces Winter and Spring Excursions

BRYSON CITY, NC – All Aboard for winter and spring journeys as the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad takes you through a remote corner of North Carolina into river gorges and tunnels carved out of mountains. The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad has adventures, excursions and special events planned throughout 2010, and is excited to announce our first quarter schedule.

The Nantahala Gorge Excursion carries you 44 miles round-trip into the Nantahala Gorge for a 4 ½ hour tour. Travel the Little Tennessee and Nantahala Rivers across Fontana Lake and into the Nantahala Gorge. Enjoy a one hour layover at the Nantahala Outdoor Center with sightseeing, a picnic lunch by the river and just plain relaxing (January excursions have a 30 minute layover at NOC resulting in a 4 hour excursion).
